A garment duffel is a bag that opens flat to take a suit or a dress on its hanger, folds in half over it, and zips into a duffel you can carry by the hand or the shoulder. The fold is the whole idea: a suit folded once at the waist arrives with one crease, at the place a jacket creases anyway, instead of the four a suitcase leaves. Inside the fold there is room for shirts and shoes, and the hanger hooks onto a loop at the top so the garment does not slide.

The two bags do the same job in different cloth. The PU leather duffel is the one people buy for a wedding weekend: a smooth face that wipes clean, ten colourways, and a shape that passes as luggage at a hotel desk. The polyester duffel is the lighter of the two at about a pound and a half, holds 41 litres, adds a shoe pocket at one end and a strap on the back that slides over a suitcase handle, and is the one for a trip with a suitcase in it. Both fold to the size of a duffel that fits an overhead bin on most airlines, and the airline sets the limit that applies.
