A teacher bag is a rolling laptop bag with two things added and one thing taken away. Added: an insulated lunch carrier that clips to the front and unclips at the fridge, and a cup holder on the side so the coffee travels upright instead of in the crook of an elbow. Taken away: the trolley, which detaches from the bag, so the bag can be lifted up a flight of stairs by its handles and rolled again at the top. The laptop sleeve is cut for 15.6 inches and sits against the wheel side; the folders go in front of it, in a compartment that opens wide from the top.

The tote is the piece for the afternoon. It carries the same 15.6-inch padded sleeve, a cup holder sewn into the side and an insulated pocket for a second lunch or a carton of milk, and it has a strap on the back that slides over the handle of the rolling bag so the two move as one in the morning. At the desk the tote comes off and goes to the next room on a shoulder, and the rolling bag stays in the corner. Both are water-resistant on the outside, and both open wide enough to drop a stack of exercise books in from above without unpacking what is already there.
